A young little girl who had been spotted by some
kids in a neighborhood in NJ.
We were called to help, and saw this emaciated
little one who was barely alive. She was
accompanied by her mom, a brother and a sister,
all were ill but not as bad as HOPE. We caught
everyone and oddly enough little HOPE managed to
elude us.
The
owner of the home suddenly turned on us and said
get off my property and called the police, who
in turn warned us if we did not leave we were
going to be arrested. When the dying kitten was
brought to the officer's attention, he said, So
it dies, get out of here now.
We called all
over for help, animal control, etc, we didn't
have time to wait for return phone calls, HOPE
was fading quick and we knew she would not
survive another brutally cold night out there
all alone.
HOPE had now become so weak we would have been
able to get her but were not allowed to enter
the property now being patrolled by cops and the
home owner. As we circled the area begging for a
kind neighbor to allow us access to their yard
we continually hit dead ends, as we had to watch
HOPE fading faster and faster, now certainly
hypothermic.
We now were informed we were facing harassment
charges. Again when the inhumanity of allowing
an animal to painfully suffer and die in clear
view was brought to the officer's attention we
were again told to get lost, and informed of all
the laws we were breaking, he failed to inform
the property owner of the laws HE was breaking
by allowing this atrocity to take place,
neglect, animal abuse, etc.
We finally got lucky and a woman who spoke
little English came home and we begged for
access to her yard, we were granted it!! We felt
as if we hit the lottery! We began to coax, beg,
plead and baited her with food trying to get
little HOPE to muster up the last bit of energy
she had in her dying body to crawl to us for
help. We were literally a few feet away but
could do nothing.
She would take a few steps and collapse again.
In this day and age, you would think the law
enforcement would have more important situations
to handle than to stand guard and ALLOW a
horrible person to deny an animal medical
attention. Well, apparently they don't. This are
your tax dollars hard at work!
WELL,
enough was enough, the right back was turned at
the right time and we were off and
running! We scooped up little Hopes' lifeless
body and headed for the hospital who had been
waiting for her. She was emaciated, anorexic,
dehydrated, hypothermic, in kidney failure,
liver disorder, malnourished, pneumonia,
conjunctivitis, anemic, ridden with fleas,
worms, and ear and skin mites. She was
unconscious when we got her, but with the
medical team working on her she began to come
around, she was in severe guarded condition and
we were warned she may not make it through the
night.
Well, she did! they all did! they made wonderful
recoveries and Hope and all her siblings were
adopted to wonderful homes who continue to flood
us with happy wonderful emails of how much they
are loved and will never have to suffer again.
Their mom, a free roaming feral, currently
resides as a resident here at the refuge,
healthy and happy and living life on HER terms.
Thanks to all for your support, this was a HUGE
success story
