The question is not, "Can they reason?" nor, "Can they talk?" but rather, "Can they suffer?"  ~Jeremy Bentham

White Spot was hit by a truck.  Some kind by- standers called us to help this poor animal.

Upon arrival we had to sedate White Spot and get him safely into the truck.  Sadly, as we were doing so people were honking their horns at us and waving a single finger, apparently this little ones tragic misfortune was quiet a nuisance for the traffic.

We got White Spot safely to the vet, who confirmed there were no broken bones, however there was a severe concussion and White spot would need supportive care as well as bottle feeding until recovery. We worked closely with a wonderful wildlife rehabilitator who taught us so much BUT the main lesson she taught us is to never give up. You hear all these stories of how these animals HAVE to be put down in the event a bone is broken, leg etc.  She told us some of her magnificent success stories of how she nursed back to health deer with 2 broken legs, deer who had been ripped apart by dogs ... and they all survived.

SO we cared for little White Spot by bottle feeding this magnificent animal under her expert advice and she, as well as White Spot taught us to never give up where these animals are concerned. We didn't know anything about deer before this experience, we just knew they were majestic creatures who were too often the victim of a car or a hunter.  But now we know how to help them and to pass on the advice she gave us, "don't give up".

4 days after White Spot arrived, we were on our way out to feed him, his barn was far into the wooded path, and there were 2 beautiful deer standing outside his area. Were they curious? or were they there to support a fellow deer?

I don't know, but taking care of that animal was an experience I will never forget.
