"Caring for these creatures is not about CONTROL AND CONTAINMENT, it is about compassion and connection:" says Kim, Founder of Cat Mountain Refuge and Just Cats Sanctuary.  "That is why we won't put cats in cages and why we don't enclose ferals."

Caged Cat

'Tis Lonely Here In Prison

'Tis lonely here in prison,
I dream of sun, of fields,
I saw them from a window once,
but I don't know how they feel.
I've never known a caress,
a friend, a bone, a toy,
I'd happily companion,
a human girl or boy.
But some men have decided,
with selfishness and greed,
that my fate shall be a cage,
and for my keep, I'll breed.
What should fuel this folly?
My kind may bark in vain.
We care not for your commerce,
and few know of our pain.
We're hidden well from justice,
for our freedom some may cry.
God grant me, please, just one request -
Let me play once before I die.

Mayor was set to be killed in a shelter in Georgia.  He was turned into the shelter for biting and there was no way they were going to adopt out a cat that bites.  A death sentence was handed down and the murder date was set.  He was also sick with an eye infection and lung infection.  why treat a dying cat, so he was left untreated.

A kind soul took to Mayor and soon realized he was a sweet boy and upon getting to know him better during that bitter sweet time; knowing he would soon be killed, realized Mayor had NO TEETH, NOT ONE, not a stump, not a decayed remnant, NOTHING but smooth gums.  There was no way this animal bit someone.  Still set to be euthanized, the kind person got into motion, setting forth a crusade to save the cat wrongly sentenced to death.  Through an acquaintance, they had heard of us, contacted us and within 4 days Mayor was on his plane ride to Cat Mountain.  Battered and bruised and still very ill, Mayor received medical treatment ASAP.  Oral antibiotics weren't working, his untreated infection had set in and he had to be put on injections and force fed; but within days, he started eating on his own and purring and loving us and he is well on his way to recovery.  This little kitty, so accurately named and so wrongly accused is an example of the faults of the shelter systems and ways.  Millions of "Mayors" are murdered every year and no one ever knows how wonderful they are.  No one ever gives them the chance they deserve.  we are so glad we were here for him.

Mayor is available for adoption.

Here are 3 baby possums.  Their mom had been hit by a car and no one bothered to stop and see if she was a female with babies in her pouch.  On my way home from getting coffee I saw her body in the middle of the road, as I got closer I noticed it was a female so I stopped to see if she had any babies who survived the accident. I found one baby.  I pulled to the side of the road and shut off the car; listening.  The babies make sneezing sounds to call their mom, so I listened, I heard, and I followed. I found two more babies one on each side of the road off in the brush. They would have died of starvation, or became prey for an animal wandering by.  I took all 3 babies home and here they are!
They will need to be syringe fed, but once they are old enough  (in a few months) they will be set free on Cat Mountain.
PLEASE stop and check to see if a dead possum has babies, don't try to care for them yourself.  Call a local wildlife rehabilitator, don't necessarily call animal control as a lot of the time the towns policy is to euthanize, if you must, make sure they won't euthanize them.
EUTHANASIA IS NEVER A HUMANE ANSWER, IT IS ONLY A HUMAN CONVENIENCE.

Animal Rescuer

I am an Animal Rescuer My job is to assist nature’s creatures.
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs.
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning for selection.
I have bought cat food with my last dime.
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.
I have fallen in love a thousand times.
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count.
I have animal friends and friends who have animal friends.
I don’t often use the word accepted. I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches. I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time.
I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven
But I believe there are.
Why would nature make something so perfect and leave it behind?
Some may think we are master of the animals,
But the animals have mastered themselves.
Something people still haven’t learned
War and abuse make me hurt for the world.
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind.
We are a quiet but determined army. And we are making a difference every day.
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan.
Nothing more rewarding than saving a life.
No higher recognition than watching them thrive.
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
Who only days ago, was too weak to eat.
By the love of those who I have been privileged to rescue
I have been rescued.
I know what unconditional love really is for I have seen it shining
in the eyes of so many, grateful for so little.
I am an animal rescuer. My work is never done. My home is never quiet.
My wallet is always empty. But my heart is always full.
